FAQ
Q. DOES CONCRETE CRACK?
A. Yes, unfortunately due to the freeze/thaw cycles that we experience in Calgary, concrete cracks and therefore cracking is quite common. However, A & V Contracting Ltd. does everything in our power to prevent this from happening. We excavate and replace with a minimum of 4" compacted granular fill, we place the rebar at 18" o/c, we use a Duramix concrete mix that has been designed to withstand our climate. plus we install control cuts where we feel the concrete is likely to crack.
For Pattern Stamp projects, control cuts generally take away from the desired look that we are trying to achieve,
but we will install them on the request of the owner.
Q. HOW SOON CAN I WALK OR DRIVE ON THE CONCRETE?
A. As far as walking or placing your furniture on the the concrete, typically the day after the concrete is poured this can be done. If Pattern Stamp or Exposed Aggregate was chosen then you might want to wait until after the sealer is applied and dried.
For driveways or parking pads, we recommend the you do not drive or park on the newly poured concrete for 14 days.
Q. DOES CONCRETE COME IN DIFFERENT COLORS?
A. Yes, although concrete comes in a standard grey color, for a extra charge, you may order it in another color. For Pattern Stamp, a choice of color is included in the price.
Q. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO MAINTAIN PATTERN STAMP OR EXPOSED AGGREGATE CONCRETE?
A. We recommend that every 2 - 3 years you give us a call to come in to re-wash and re-seal.
